Encrypting CFM Files with CFencode

After reading Ben Nadels blog post about a new CF builder Extension for encrypting and decrypting ColdFusion files I thought I would do a companion blog post about the pros/cons of doing so.

First off I should really say we are encoding them, not encrypting them.  Basically the .cfm or .cfc files become binary instead of ascii text files.   This ends up causing a number of issues which I will get into later.

RIAdventure 360 Cruise weeks away

Just thought I would post a little checklist of things to consider for the upcoming cruise/event.

I am REALLY looking forward to this.  Both from a vacation standpoint as well as a great learning/networking opportunity.  We have some very smart people on the ship.

RIA Cruise / Conference In December - RIAdventure

Just a quick update on RIAdventure.  We are now just a couple months away.  Time is flying by but it isn't too late to book the conference/cruise.  What could be better then going on a cruise from New Orleans to Costa Maya (Mexico), Santo Tomas De Castilla (Guatemala), Belize City (Belize) and Cozumel (Mexico)?

How about hanging out with Ted Patrick, Ryan Stewart, Doug McCune, Samuel Rivello and Faisal Abid talking about all the HOT news that has come out of recent Adobe announcements.  Dig in deep with questions about Flash to iPhone apps, or how about the many enhancements in Flash 10.1?  Want to get the skinny on developing apps and ensuring they run on the most platforms including mobile?  Yup now is a good time to book.

Aion Review

I spent some time at the end of the Aion open beta checking out the game. I have been itching to try a new online game out, and somehow I just found out about Aion last week.

The game itself installed pretty easy.  NCSoft has a launcher to manage which game to run, download patches for, etc.  So if you have any of their other games I suppose your already part way there.

CFUnited Top Ten List of Surprise Announcements/Events

Inspired by Dan Vega's Top 10 things he is looking forward to, I thought I would just post my top ten expected surprise announcements/events at this years CFUnited.  This list is not to be confused with last years list, which was probably more funny.

  1. This year we will not be getting backpacks.  Instead we all get snuggies.
  2. On 2:30 PM Thursday afternoon the staff of the resort is forced to pull Peter Bell from the pool, where he has been floating on an inflatable alligator and working for a full 30 hours non stop.
  3. Open Bar for the entire week.  The resort goes dry in 3.5 hours.  Liz brings in extra booze by helicopter.
  4. Todd Sharp, Ray Camden, Dee Sadler, and Ben Nadel will be doing a barber shop quartet number to close out the show.
  5. Adobe announces a new webOS. Adam Lehman and Ben Forta demo how easily it can connect to our LDAP, send mail, read PDF's and create spreadsheets.  Turns out ColdFusion 9 was really a double secret codename all along.
  6. Rumors about a supposed CF Fight Club materialize with a splash during the SciFi BOF.
  7. One exhausted exhibitor will decide not to follow the passport card model of previous years, and simply punch a visitor instead.
  8. Nobody will complain about WiFi.
  9. #OMGWHATDIDIDRINKLASTNIGHT will become a trending topic on twitter based on what started off as a friendly discussion of which is better, scotch or tequila.
  10. The most popular session every day turns out to be the golf course to the shock of no one.

I am really excited to see everyone next week. If I am not in a session or at the Savvy Software booth look for me at the bar or pool. :-)

Understood. I will check to confirm a bug and have it filed for fix in next build.

Hi Brian, Not entirely clear what the issue is. Are you saying that when you remove the savvyinverselist item they can upload in images with calendar events? but not with savvyinverselist?
November 4
The software I list will do all of that for you, and you can use the evaluation version for free. I highly recommend it. Exactly understood. Get existing site working on new server, test it then upgrade.

Ya that isn't a good plan. MUCH better to copy over existing db then do the upgrade. The upgrade will actually fix the indexes but it wont fix default values. Which db is it? this tool will conect to a db and create a .sql file backup of a db, you...

Hi Renee, Upgrading 3.03 should be fine. CF8 is great. Move files over. Not sure if you need to move the db. Just make sure the database is mssql or mysql and that when you move it over all of the default values and indexes get copied over too. ...

Hard to know. The CF logs should show any number of possible issues with a page, custom code, etc. Do you have access to the coldfusion administrator?

There is a file in /actionfiles/dnav/cssmenus/css/horizontal.css You will find a width coded there. edit that width to match what you expect for the nav and I think that should do it.

Try restarting CF. CF caches dns and may be looking to a different IP or something like that.

Nice try, but no luck. I created a blank text file called stylecalendar.css and placed it in the primarytemplatefiles directory and no luck. I rebooted the server and still no luck. I've been flushing my browser cache and everything, and still this happens. Should I try rebuilding the pages?

I Jennifer,

In the future, you should post support issues this to the forums area, as I wont often see comments here.

As for your issue, it sounds like your browser is caching the old page display, or maybe a proxy server is serving up old page data.

Josh. When I log into our website I don't get the edit buttons. If I log in again, then I get the buttons. This is the case with all of our logins.
